Rookie NFL Player Facing Dui Charge Following 2-Vehicle Crash
On June 2, a rookie tight end for the Jets was taken into custody in New Jersey for drunk driving. The report said that the arrest occurred at about 4:45 a.m. on Route 80 in Rockaway.
The man was traveling on Route 80 when, according to the New Jersey State Police, he crashed his SUV into another vehicle that was being driven by a 72-year-old man. This vehicle was towing a vintage car. No injuries were reported from the incident.
When authorities arrived at the scene, it was found that the tight end’s blood alcohol level was higher than the legal limit. As a result, he was charged with drunk driving. Authorities released him without taking him to jail. A spokesperson for the New York Jets stated that the team was aware of the incident but could not comment on the situation.
Drunk driving charges can have major impacts on a person’s life. In addition to legal consequences, which could include jail time, fines and a loss of the person’s driving privileges, a person could even lose his or her job. If this is a person’s second, third or even fourth drunk driving offense, the consequences could be even more severe.
Although every DUI charge is taken seriously by authorities, there are some defense strategies that can be used. A criminal defense attorney may challenge the evidence from Breathalyzers, especially if the device was not used correctly or was not calibrated correctly. If this is the person’s first DUI offense, the attorney may work with the prosecution to reduce the severity of the penalties.
