Drivers have a responsibility to take action to protect not only their own safety but also the safety of others they may encounter on the roadways — regardless of their chosen mode of transportation. Unfortunately, when a car accident occurs involving a pedestrian, the consequences are often tragic. In fact, police in New Jersey are currently investigating an incident in which a pedestrian lost his life.

The incident involved a 28-year-old man. First responders were reportedly called to the scene of an accident just after 4:30 a.m. on a day in late July. The 28-year-old victim was reportedly lying underneath the vehicle believed to have struck him.

Unfortunately, the man died as a result of the injuries suffered in the accident. The driver of the vehicle that police say struck him reportedly stayed at the scene and cooperated with law enforcement officers. Investigators are asking that anyone with information about the accident to contact them.

Now a family is left to grieve the unexpected, preventable loss of their loved one. Often, a car accident is caused by negligence on the behalf of a driver. If such is determined to be the case in this New Jersey accident, the deceased victim’s surviving family members may choose to file a wrongful death lawsuit against those believed to be responsible. While a successfully presented lawsuit will do little to lessen the family’s grief, a monetary award can ensure that they are able to cope with the financial fallout of their loss, including covering funeral expenses and the loss of wages.
