New Jersey Man Faces DUI Charge Following Accident
A man from Brick Township has been charged following an accident on Route 37 that police say injured six people. New Jersey police responded to the accident on the evening of March 20. The driver believed responsible for the accident has been charged with DUI. Police in Toms River, New Jersey, are still investigating the crash. It is unclear whether the driver remains in police custody at this time.
How Did the Incident Supposedly Happen?
According to the report, at around 10 p.m., a 30-year-old man was headed eastbound on Route 37 when the accident occurred. He reportedly crashed into the rear of an SUV that was stopped at a traffic signal. It is believed he was speeding at the time of the crash, and his vehicle continued through the intersection and into the westbound lanes before crashing into the base of a traffic signal pole.
Four people in the SUV were injured, with all four being transported to local hospitals for treatment of injuries of unknown severity. The passenger in the offending driver’s vehicle was also taken to a hospital. The driver himself suffered only minor injuries and was arrested on site. He is charged with DUI, reckless driving and careless driving. A court date has yet to be announced.
How Will Things Play out From Here?
A DUI conviction can have long-lasting effects on the life of the charged individual. In this case, the man could lose his license, be subject to fines or even face imprisonment for his role in the crash. This is why he will be represented in New Jersey criminal court by a defense attorney who will work tirelessly to see his charges reduced or dropped. He or she will carefully review the facts of the case to determine whether police acted in accordance with the man’s rights during the investigation and subsequent arrest.
