New Jersey Man Allegedly Causes Auto Accident
A man from Tom’s River is facing serious charges following a three-vehicle accident he allegedly caused, according to local law enforcement. The 25-year-old New Jersey resident faces multiple citations after he apparently ran a red light, causing the auto accident. Thankfully, no one was killed, but one person remains hospitalized.
What Supposedly Happened?
According to the accident report, the 25-year-old man was driving on Bay Avenue in Tom’s River when the accident occurred. Apparently, the man ran a red light, causing his vehicle to strike another car in the intersection. The force of the impact flipped the struck vehicle, causing it to strike a third car that had stopped at the opposing red light.
A 51-year-old man had to be extricated from the struck car by East Dover and Tom’s River Fire Department crews. He was treated on the scene by EMS personnel for unknown injuries and then Medevacked to Jersey Shore Medical Center for additional treatment. The 25-year-old driver and the 51-year-old driver of the third car appear to have avoided injury. However, the younger man now faces charges of failure to obey a traffic signal as well as driving with an expired license, no registration and no insurance.
Potential Legal Consequences
When the man is brought to court to face these charges, he could lose his license permanently and possibly face jail time. Even if he is not criminally convicted, New Jersey law allows the injured man to file a personal injury lawsuit in a civil court against the driver responsible for the auto accident. If sufficient evidence exists of the accused driver’s material contribution to the crash, the court may choose to award damages to the injured party.
