Man Accused of DWI After New Jersey Police Chase

The Law Office of Joel M. Bacher Sept. 7, 2020

Most people who have ever had an encounter with a police officer — regardless of the reason — likely know that it can be a nerve-wracking experience. The anticipation of this sort of encounter could prompt someone to act in a way that is inconsistent with his or her character. Unfortunately, a young man now faces multiple charges, including DWI, following an incident in New Jersey.

Reports indicate that the incident that resulted in the man’s arrest happened during the early morning hours of a day in mid-August. It is unclear what prompted the state trooper to make the initial stop. However, the trooper claims that the driver, allegedly a 21-year-old male, drove away as the former approached the vehicle.

Apparently, a police chase reportedly spanning three different counties ensued and involved the driver exiting the westbound lanes of traffic and reentering the same road in the eastbound lanes. Law enforcement officers claim that the pursuit came to an end after the young man’s vehicle struck a trooper’s cruiser. The man’s vehicle was reportedly disabled, and he was taken into custody.

In addition to the DWI charge, the man is charged with resisting arrest, obstruction, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia and eluding. While the prospect of navigating the criminal justice system is intimidating regardless of the situation, it can seem especially so for people with little experience or knowledge of the procedures. Fortunately, there are experienced professionals who can help those facing criminal accusations respond to the charges against them in the manner that is most suited to their individual circumstances.
