The Law Office of Joel M. Bacher July 15, 2021

Linden was the site of tragedy on the night of June 15 when a multiple-vehicle crash claimed two lives. New Jersey police responded to the auto accident on Routes 1 and 9 around 11:30 p.m. The crash is still being investigated at this time, and police have asked for the support of the community in determining details of the accident.

What Apparently Happened at The Scene of The Accident?

According to the limited information in the report, it appears a vehicle carrying a man and a woman was headed northbound when another vehicle, a sedan, was attempting to navigate a U-turn from Interstate 278. This caused the two vehicles to crash. The force of the impact sent the second vehicle into a third before swerving off the road.

The crash killed both occupants of the U-turn vehicle, including the 22-year-old driver and his 15-year-old brother. The man and the woman in the other vehicle were taken to local hospitals with injuries described as not life-threatening. Police closed down Routes 1 and 9 to facilitate their investigation. So far, the cause of the crash has yet to be identified.

Potential Legal Repercussions Could Lie Ahead

Depending on the outcome of this investigation, the surviving driver may end up facing charges if it is found that individual was materially responsible for the auto accident. If the fault appears to belong to the deceased driver, the surviving injured parties are entitled to file personal injury suits against the driver’s estate and anyone with ownership interest in the vehicle. Such suits are handled in civil court and do not rely on a criminal charge or conviction for the court to award damages to the injured parties.
