2 Dead in Auto Accident
July 2, 2021
Two people have tragically died and three others are in the hospital following a multi-vehicle accident in Linden. New Jersey police confirmed the auto accident happened around 11:30 p.m. the night of June 15. The cause of the crash is still under investigation, and Linden Police Traffic Bureau has asked for the support of the community by asking witnesses to come forward.
How Did the Crash Apparently Happen?
According to the limited information available in the report, it appears a sedan was headed northbound when another sedan attempted to make a U-turn from Interstate 278. The two vehicles collided, forcing the second vehicle to strike an SUV before swerving off the road. The force of the impact killed both individuals in the second vehicle, later identified as a 22-year-old man and a 15-year-old boy, who were apparently brothers.
Two individuals from the first vehicle and the driver of the third were all taken to Newark University Hospital. Their injuries were all described as not life-threatening. So far, no charges have been filed against anyone involved.
Restitution Is Possible Following These Unfortunate Incidents
Depending on the outcome of the police investigation, it may be determined the driver or drivers responsible for the auto accident perished in the crash. If this is the case, no criminal charges are filed posthumously by the state of New Jersey. However, state law does allow grieving families to file wrongful death lawsuits even against the estate of a driver found to be materially responsible for a fatal crash.
