2 Critically Injured in Recent New Jersey Auto Accident
June 9, 2021
A bizarre accident caused disastrous damage to a car dealership and sent two people to a local hospital, according to investigators on the scene. New Jersey authorities are still piecing together what caused the auto accident, though speed is definitely being considered a factor. Thankfully no injuries at the dealership were reported outside the driver and second occupant of the involved vehicle.
What Happened at The Crash Scene?
According to preliminary reports, around 12:45 a.m. on May 18, a vehicle driven by an unknown person was traveling at a high rate of speed when it is believed the driver lost control while navigating a turn. Surveillance videos then show the vehicle striking at least seven parked cars at the dealership with enough force to push an SUV onto another car. The driver and a passenger in the vehicle were trapped inside the wreckage.
Emergency crews worked to free the two occupants, who were rushed to a local hospital. Their identities have not been publicly reported at this time. Their injuries, while described as severe, are also unknown. Police have not ruled out recklessness, negligence or intoxication as possible factors in the accident, and their investigation remains underway.
Potential Legal Ramifications Moving Forward
If the police investigation indicates the driver was operating his or her vehicle in an unsafe way, leading to the crash, that individual could face multiple criminal charges related to the injury of the passenger as well as the damage to the car dealership. Even if no criminal charges are filed, New Jersey law allows the victims of an auto accident or their families to file civil suits for personal injury and wrongful death. Evidence gathered by police may be helpful to support a civil claim.
