Joel Bacher, Lawyer for Post-Conviction Relief

Post conviction relief refers to the legal process which takes place after a trial results in a conviction. Sometimes there are mistakes in the way a lawyer handles a criminal case for a client that led to a conviction. Some of these mistakes are so atrocious they constitute 'ineffective assistance of counsel'. When this occurs, an application for Post-Conviction Relief can be made to the Court to correct the mistake through a new trial or other means. If successful, the Court will usually reverse what happened and put your case back to the point where you were before the mistake happened. The petition is usually heard by the same Judge that handled your case tin the first place. Other forms of post conviction relief may include an appeal to be released from all sentences, a new trial, modification of sentence, and such other relief as may be proper and just. Falling under post conviction relief includes parole and parole violations defense, re-tiering for Megan's Law, expungements and more. If you are seeking relief to what you consider an unjust outcome or punishment for the charges you faced, contact my office immediately.
